EDOTA background
Education Outreach Tanzania (EDOTA) is the local not for profit NGO that works collaboratively with local and international partners, local communities, local government authority, and other organizations to promote inclusive community development and economic justice. The organization was registered on 26th May 2010 with registration number 00003478 to operate in Tanzania mainland.

Since its establishment, EDOTA have successful implemented several funded projects aimed at enhancing livelihood, economic strengthening, promoting good governance, conserving the environment, addressing GBV and health promotions. TNC and EDOTA have established Partnership since 2020 with EDOTA successful implementing prior programs aimed at strengthening Community-Led fisheries conservation, enforcement readiness and local conservation, in Katavi, Kigoma, Tabora, Geita and Rukwa regions.

Project overview
The LATABIOCON project addresses the critical environmental and socio-economic challenges facing the Lake Tanganyika Basin (LTB), a massive ecosystem covering 223,000 km² that holds one-fifth of Earth’s accessible freshwater and supports over 12 million people across Burundi, DRC, Tanzania, and Zambia. This unique basin encompasses several major government-managed protected areas and internationally recognized Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs).

However, the ecosystem is under immense pressure from the overexploitation of nearshore fish communities, habitat loss, and widespread catchment degradation. These human-driven pressures are heavily amplified by climate change, which has caused persistent lake warming, stronger stratification, expanding low-oxygen zones, and erratic rainfall trends that accelerate soil erosion, threatening fisheries, rain-fed agriculture, and lake-dependent livelihoods.

To counter these systemic risks, EDOTA plays a pivotal role within the LaTaBioCoN consortium by leading critical conservation, socioeconomic development, and promoting regenerative economy. Specifically, EDOTA is responsible toward sustainable human development, the organization is tasked with implementing community livelihood interventions that help vulnerable populations adapt to climate and environmental pressures.

Furthermore, EDOTA drives the promotion of Nature-based Enterprises (NbEs) to generate eco-friendly income streams, alongside catchment management strategies designed to mitigate erosion and heavy sediment delivery into critical habitats, while facilitating community led governance among the riparian communities.

Position overview
We are seeking a compassionate, dynamic, and strategic Safeguarding, Gender, and Livelihood Officer. This multi-disciplinary role will serve as the champion for social protection, economic empowerment, and gender-transformative programming. You will be responsible for setting up and managing robust safeguarding mechanisms, designing and monitoring gender-equitable interventions, and leading community-level initiatives that expand climate-resilient, biodiversity-positive livelihoods for women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

Key responsibilities
Safeguarding and GBV Mitigation: Design, implement, and monitor project-wide safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) protocols. Establish safe, confidential, and accessible community reporting channels. Conduct gender-based violence (GBV) risk assessments and lead community-level mitigation strategies.

Gender Equality & Inclusion Advocacy: Ensure that women and youth are actively included in project design, planning, and decision-making processes. Promote equal leadership representation within Community-Managed Institutions (CMIs). Advocate for women’s enhanced access to financial services.

Livelihood and Nature Based Enterprise Development: Monitor the implementation of climate-resilient, biodiversity-positive livelihood interventions. Deliver targeted enterprise training for youth to counter unsustainable practices. Promote income-generating activities in the fisheries and agriculture sectors designed to close the gender wage gap.

Disability Inclusion mainstreaming: Proactively advance the integration of persons with disabilities into community-led enterprises, financial service access pipelines, and local governance bodies.

Capacity Building and Training: Conduct regular training sessions for collaborators, CMIs, local government staff, and community structures on safeguarding policies, gender mainstreaming, and inclusive economic development.

Ethical Standard: Monitor and ensure ethical practices among project workers and collaborators.

Required qualifications & experience
Education: A University Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Development Studies, Human Rights, International Development, or any related field.
Experience: Not required.
Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of safeguarding frameworks, case handling principles, Grievance redness mechanism, Ethical standards, and GBV prevention in rural contexts. Proven experience designing inclusive micro-enterprise, financial inclusion, or sustainable agricultural/fisheries livelihood initiatives.
Social Inclusion Focus: Demonstrated history of successfully championing youth-centric livelihoods and advocating for the rights and integration of persons with disabilities.
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional active listening, empathy, and cross-cultural communication skills. Proven capacity to handle sensitive personal and protection data with maximum confidentiality and integrity.
