Job overview

Kafika House is seeking a motivated, self-driven and compassionate Physiotherapist to join its Patient Care Team at its facility in Arusha.

The position is ideal for someone passionate about providing therapeutic care to children with disabilities before and after surgery and helping them achieve independence in daily living activities.

The Physiotherapist will plan and lead individual and group therapy sessions, assess patients, develop care plans and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The successful candidate will also support internal and external clinic services and contribute to holistic care provision at Kafika House.

About Kafika House

Kafika House is an international NGO based in Arusha, Tanzania. It runs the Kafika House programme, which provides a safe and nurturing home away from home for children receiving pre- and post-operative care and rehabilitation for surgically treatable disabilities.

These disabilities include:

  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Clubfoot
  • Skeletal fluorosis
  • Burn scar contractures
  • Osteomyelitis

Kafika House’s vision is that no child in Tanzania should live with a treatable disability.

Role responsibilities

The Physiotherapist will be responsible for:

  • Planning, preparing and leading daily individual and group paediatric therapy sessions.
  • Conducting initial patient assessments and developing individualised care plans.
  • Documenting patient progress in paper and electronic medical records.
  • Participating in daily and weekly patient care rounds and providing wellness updates and care plan adjustments.
  • Demonstrating patient advocacy through high-quality, holistic clinical care.
  • Supporting partner hospital clinics and screenings, advocating for patients and assisting with care coordination.
  • Participating in the organisation’s ongoing education programme and Continuing Professional Development.
  • Sharing knowledge and skills with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Contributing to Kafika House clinics, including clubfoot treatment, gait training and splinting.
  • Supervising therapy assistants, students and interdisciplinary interns.
  • Participating in community outreach activities, including patient screening, advocacy and disability awareness.
  • Fostering a caring environment that promotes healing, rehabilitation and inclusion.

Education, skills and experience

Applicants must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body in Tanzania.
  • At least three years of clinical experience in paediatric physiotherapy.
  • Strong teamwork, communication and time-management skills.
  • A compassionate and patient approach to care.
  • The ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Proficiency in computer use, documentation and care plan development.

The following will be considered added advantages:

  • Knowledge and practical experience in the Ponseti method.
  • Previous experience working with an NGO or rehabilitation centre.
