Key responsibilities
The Officer – Systems and Applications Developer will:
- Design, develop and maintain in-house software applications that support the school’s operations.
- Work with departments across the school to understand business requirements and develop practical software solutions.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and improve existing applications to ensure reliable performance.
- Develop clean, secure and maintainable software in accordance with the school’s development standards.
- Test, debug and review software to ensure quality and reliability.
- Support system integrations with internal and third-party applications.
- Create technical documentation, user guides and training materials.
- Train users on newly developed systems and provide technical support when required.
- Monitor emerging technologies and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency across the school.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Applications team to resolve user support requests and continuously improve existing systems.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have:
- A minimum of a Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
- Experience developing software applications using modern programming languages and frameworks.
- A good understanding of software development principles, databases and system integration.
- Experience developing web applications using:
- PHP
- Bootstrap
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- SQL
- Relational databases
- Experience working with:
- jQuery
- AJAX
- RESTful APIs
- Git version control
- Experience troubleshooting software issues and maintaining business applications.
- The ability to gather user requirements and translate them into software solutions.
- Strong documentation, communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with software testing, debugging and version control, which will be considered an advantage.
- A willingness to continuously learn about emerging technologies and industry best practices.
