Background
Emerging Health Initiatives (EHI) is a non-profit international organization headquartered in the United States with a growing network of collaborators and partners in Tanzania, Kenya and the United States. EHI works to strengthen healthcare delivery systems through direct service provision, community outreach programs, health education, and partnerships with local stakeholders. As part of its mission, EHI is establishing a new Polyclinic in Kamachumu, Muleba District, Kagera Region. The facility will provide comprehensive primary healthcare services, maternal and child health services, pharmacy services, laboratory and radiology services, preventive healthcare, and community health programs aimed at improving health outcomes within Muleba District and surrounding communities.
To support the successful launch and operation of the clinic, EHI invites qualified, motivated, and compassionate healthcare professionals to apply for the following position.
Position details
Job title: Laboratory Technician
Number of positions: 1 Position
Reports To: Chief Medical Officer
Position summary
The Laboratory Technician will provide quality diagnostic laboratory services while ensuring compliance with Ministry of Health standards, quality assurance requirements, and laboratory regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Perform laboratory investigations according to approved procedures.
- Maintain laboratory quality assurance and quality control systems.
- Maintain laboratory registers and documentation.
- Prepare government reports and laboratory records.
- Manage laboratory supplies and reagent inventory.
- Support equipment maintenance and calibration activities.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards.
Minimum qualifications
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Registration with the Health Laboratory Practitioners Council.
- Valid practicing license.
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant laboratory experience.
Required experience
- Laboratory documentation and record keeping.
- Government laboratory reporting requirements.
- Quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Laboratory inventory management.
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and digital laboratory systems.
Added advantages
- Experience preparing facilities for regulatory inspections.
- Experience with external quality assessment programs.
- Experience performing malaria, HIV, hematology, urinalysis, and basic biochemistry testing.
- Experience supporting emergency patient management.
- Knowledge of digital health technologies.
- Social media communication and content creation skills.

General employment conditions
Duty station
Kamachumu, Muleba District, Kagera Region, Tanzania
Contract type
Fixed-Term Contract for Two (2) Years, renewable based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
Probation period
Six (6) months.
Expected start date
To be communicated to successful candidates.
Working schedule
Staff will work according to duty rosters approved by management and may be required to work on weekends, public holidays, and emergency shifts as operational needs dictate.
Salary
According to EHI salary scale and benefit package.
Language requirements
- Fluency in Kiswahili is mandatory.
- Working knowledge of English is required.
