Invitation to apply for an Independent Non-Executive Director

CRDB Bank Foundation (CBF), the social investment arm of CRDB Bank Plc, is committed to driving sustainable socio-economic development through entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, youth empowerment and women’s economic empowerment. To strengthen the Boards financial oversight and assurance capability, CBF invites suitable and qualifies candidates to apply for the position of an Independent Non-Executive Director with strong accounting and/or audit expertise. The position is for a term of three (3) years renewable.

Academic and professional qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Commerce, Banking, or Business Administration (Finance/Accounting/Auditing major) from a recognized institution.
• A Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting, Auditing, Development Finance, Risk Management, Corporate Governance, or Business Administration (MBA) is desirable.
• Professional certifications such as CPA(T), ACCA, CIMA, CIA, or equivalent.
• At least 5 years of senior-level experience in finance, accounting, auditing, banking, governance, risk management, development finance, or related fields.
• Experience serving on Boards or Board Committees of reputable organizations.

Key responsibilities

The appointed Independent Non-Executive Director will be required to:

• Provide strategic guidance and oversight to CBF.
• Contribute to the approval and monitoring of the CBF’s strategy, policies, and budgets.
• Oversee financial stewardship, risk management, and governance practices.
• Monitor the effectiveness and impact of the CBF programs.
• Attend and participate actively in Board and Committee meetings.
• Support stakeholder engagement and resource mobilization efforts.

Experience and core competencies

Candidates should demonstrate strong capabilities and experience relevant to the Foundation’s mission, governance needs, and programmatic priorities:

• Strong understanding of corporate governance principles, NGO governance frameworks, fiduciary responsibilities and knowledge of Tanzanian regulatory frameworks (laws and governance frameworks applicable to CBF).
• Experience with risk management, internal controls, and compliance systems, especially within foundations, NGOs, or financial institutions.
• Experience in development finance, social investment, or impact-driven programs.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic guidance, constructive challenge, and independent judgment.
• Commitment to sustainable socio-economic development and the Foundation’s mission.
• Experience engaging and building partnerships with government ministries, development partners, private sector actors, and international organizations.
• Ability to guide the Foundation’s long-term strategy, including scaling programs and diversifying funding.
