Job Description


Chemonics International, a US-based international development consulting firm seeks a Data Use (Objective 4) Director for the anticipated USAID NextGen Ugavi Bora, Afya Bora (Better Supply, Better Health) activity to be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This activity aims to strengthen supply chain and pharmaceutical services to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable health commodities and will work to develop the capacity of local systems, institutions, and individuals to sustainably manage supply chains, for both USAID-procured health commodities and those procured through national/local systems, and to strengthen local pharmaceutical management systems, including quality pharmaceutical services and national regulatory systems.

The Data Use Director will report to the Deputy Chief of Party and lead the project objectives related to Objective 4: Supply chain and pharmaceutical management data are visible throughout the relevant systems, and shared with relevant stakeholders, who use technology and analytic capabilities to support and continually improve performance. They will oversee strategic initiatives related to information systems, data management, and data analytics.

Key responsibilities:

Expand use of supply chain data by improving interoperability of systems, increasing volume of data captured (to include private sector data)
Develop and implement tools and methodologies to ensure timely and quality logistics data and effective data-use for decision-making at all levels
Develop effective data governance policies
Support local systems with the digitization of paper-based reports and the optimization of data collection procedures

Required Qualifications

Advanced degree in public health, supply chain management, institutional development, business management, finance, or related field or minimum or 10 years in related professional experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on supply chain/pharmaceutical management projects
Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules and regulations
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
Experience working in Tanzania and deep knowledge of geo-political, ethnic, cultural, and other considerations affecting programming in Tanzania and the region is required
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Fluency in English required, Swahili desirable
