Position: Assistant Production Manager – Crop Protection
Reports to: Production Manager
Position Type: Staff Position
Job Location: Arusha, Tanzania

Objective of the Role:

To safeguard crop health and optimize greenhouse production through effective pest and disease management, crop monitoring, and adherence to quality, safety, and farm protocols.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Lead and coordinate crop protection, pest and disease management, scouting, and crop monitoring activities to maintain crop health, quality, and production performance.
2. Supervise and develop crop protection and scouting teams, ensuring effective workforce planning, productivity, discipline, training, and adherence to operational and safety standards.
3. Monitor crop health and protection performance, analyse relevant information, and ensure timely identification, reporting, and escalation of crop risks and emerging issues.
4. Oversee the effective management of crop protection resources, materials, equipment, and related operational requirements, ensuring safe, efficient, and accountable utilization.
5. Support the Production Manager in maintaining effective greenhouse operations, ensuring compliance with hygiene, health, safety, environmental, and farm protocols while contributing to continuous operational improvement.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Horticulture or a related field.
2. Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in crop protection, greenhouse production, pest and disease management, or a related agricultural production environment.
3. Good knowledge of integrated pest management, crop monitoring, pest and disease identification, crop protection principles, chemical safety, safe pesticide handling practices, and applicable occupational health and environmental standards.
4. Proven ability to supervise teams, coordinate workforce activities, and maintain high standards of productivity, discipline, safety, and operational efficiency.
5. Strong analytical and data management skills, with the ability to interpret crop monitoring information and prepare accurate operational reports.
6. Excellent computer skills and proficiency in working with multiple related software with proficiency in data collection, analysis, and record keeping using agricultural software.
7. Good communication and coordination skills with proficiency in English and Swahili languages, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
