Job Description


Vacancies

Article 129 (1) (a) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977 in Chapter six, Part I, establishes the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance (CHRAGG).

Following the expiry of the tenure of Commissioners, the Appointment Committee for Appointments of Commissioners, established under Article 129 (4) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977, do hereby invites applications from suitably qualified Tanzania citizens to apply for the posts of Assistant Commissioners in the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance as follows:-

Qualifications

According to section 7 (3) of the CHRAGG Act, Cap. 391 the Applicant should have highest reputation and known for his high morality, integrity, impartiality and competence in matters of human rights and good governance.

Required Experience

In accordance to regulation 4 (4) (a – i) of the CHRAGG (Appointments Procedure for Commissioners) Regulations, 2018 the applicant shall have:-

a. Knowledge, experience and considerable degree of involvement in matters relating to law, governance, politics or social affairs;
b. The highest reputation known for his/her morality, integrity, impartiality and competence in matters of human rights and good governance;
c. Strong commitment to human rights norms and values;
d. Excellent writing and communication skills in both English and Swahili;
e. Ability to balance rights and to make fair and sound decision expeditiously, and to articulate them in writing or orally;
f. Capacity to handle emotionally difficult and challenging situations with tact and diplomacy;
g. Capacity to handle delicate social and political situations and complaints with confidentiality, where necessary;
h. Strong conflict resolution skills; and
i. Ability to work effectively as a team member, as well as alone.

Duties

a. Receive complaints from the public;
b. Make such on-the-spot investigation as may be necessary; and
c. Discharge any other duties relating to the functions of the CHRAGG as may be assigned to him by the CHRAGG.

Salary Grade

Salary at a scale of LSSE4-1 and additional attractive fringe benefits.

Other Matters for Consideration

Tenure and Conditions of Service

According to Article 129 (5) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977, Chairman, Vice Chairman and all other Commissioners, shall each hold office for a period of three years (3) and may be re-appointed for another only one term of three years (3).

Also, Article 129 (6), of the Constitution of United Republic of Tanzania, 1977 read together with Section 9 (1) of the CHRAGG Act, Cap. 391, for purposes of protection of Commissioners from conflict of interests, any person who is appointed as Commissioner of CHRAGG shall immediately abandon any office held by him in any political party or any other office; member of Parliament; the office of member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives; the office of Speaker of the National Assembly; the office of Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives; the office of Judge or other judicial office; any office in the Public Service; the office of member of an Electoral Commission; the office of member of a local government authority and any office in the service of any local government authority; any other public office.

Method of Application

Application letters accompanied with comprehensive Curriculum Vitae, copies of educational qualifications, three letters of recommendation, shall be forwarded by post to the Appointment Committee, Utumishi Street, Government City, Mtumba Area P.O Box. 1954 Dodoma; or by email [email protected].



For applicants in Tanzania Mainland who wish to submit in person, letters should be submitted to the Office of the Attorney General’s Building, Utumishi Street, Government City, Mtumba Area, Dodoma.

For applicants from Zanzibar who wish to submit in person, letters should be submitted in person to the Offices of the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance, located at Sheikh ya Momba, Mkapa Road, Town Street, Building No. MS/ML/F199, Magharibi B. District within Mjini Magharibi Region.



The deadline for submission of applications shall be 21 days from the date of first publication of this advertisement or on or before 31 August, 2026.
